9 Best Edinburgh Hotels in the Old Town for Every Budget

Edinburgh is divided into the Old Town and the New Town. The Old Town is considered its medieval part where main attractions are, and the New Town is a 18th and 19th century Victorian part. My recommendation is to stay in the Old Town because it’s more beautiful and everything would be on an easy walking distance. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, then you have to stay at The Balmoral Hotel!

J.K. Rowling wrote the final chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows here. The room she stayed at has since been renamed the J.K. Rowling Suite.

Some rooms and suites come with beautiful Edinburgh Castle views.

The hotel is close to the Waverley train station, which is super convenient if you’re arriving there. While all the attractions are within a walking distance of no more than 20 minutes, the closest attraction is the Scott Monument, dedicated to author Sir Walter Scott.

The Scotsman Hotel is a 4-star hotel on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, a street that connects Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Which means you’d be based right in the heart of Edinburgh and close to its all the main locations, so it’s definitely a great choice for sightseeing.

Plus, it’s affordable and won’t break your bank to stay there.
