16 Must-Visit Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Filming Locations
It’s not a surprise I’m a huge GOT fan! I watched it twice and it’s to this day my favourite fantasy tv series (still disappointed with the ending though!). So, whenever I’m travelling and I know Game of Thrones was filmed there, I have to visit these locations. And with Dubrovnik being the location for King’s Landing from Season 2, you know there will be plenty of Game of Thrones filming locations.
In this blog post, I am bringing you 16 must-visit Dubrovnik Game of Thrones locations to check during your visit. I will also share with you top Game of Thrones Tours you can book in Dubrovnik.
Let’s go – Dracarys!

Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Locations
While most of the Game of Thrones locations in Dubrovnik represent King’s Landing (from season 2 onwards), some scenes from Qarth were also filmed there.
Let’s check them out (in no particular order).
Jesuit Staircase
Jesuit Stairs is a Game of Thrones filming location where Cersei’s Walk of Shame took place in season 5.
💡FUN FACT: Walk of Shame was filmed in both Girona in Spain and in Dubrovnik (I’ve been to both locations, which you can see in the photos below).

St Dominic Street
Speaking of Walk of Shame, it continued down the Old Town and Cersei passed by the St Dominic Street where the famous Dominican Monastery is located.

Ploce Gate
Ploce Gate is the eastern entrance to the Old Town of Dubrovnik. It is a location where Cersei’s Walk of Shame finally finishes as she arrives at the gates of the Red Keep.

Rector’s Palace
Rector’s Palace is a palace built in the 15th century. It was a seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa (yes, Dubrovnik was once an independent state of its own and the greatest rival to Venice!).
Today the palace is turned into a Dubrovnik Museum which you can visit (buy the tickets at the entrance).
In Game of Thrones some scenes from Qarth were filmed inside the palace. One example is when Daenerys asks for help and ships to get to Westeros and the 13 Rulers of Qarth reject her request.

Fort Lovrijenac
Fort Lovrijenac, or the St. Lawrence Fortress, is a fortress outside the western wall of Dubrovnik, built in the 14th century (though possibly even earlier).
The fortress is a symbol of Dubrovnik’s survival and freedom because it defended the City from the sea and covered the western Pile Gate.
In Game of Thrones is the filming location of the Red Keep (some CGI was applied of course!).
✅ Dubrovnik City Walls & Fort Lovrijenac are covered within the same ticket, so don’t throw it away until you visited both sites!

Dubrovnik West Pier
Dubrovnik West Pier (close to Fort Lovrijenac) is a location of the famous Blackwater Bay Battle.
There’s a little bridge in the middle where they filmed a scene of Sansa talking to Littlefinger and Shae watching over them.

Dubrovnik West Harbour
Dubrovnik West Harbour is practically next to the pier (one might even consider it the same location).
This spot is a filming location of season 2 when the gold cloaks go into the city to kill all of the King’s Robert Baratheon bastard children.

Pile Harbour
Pile Harbour is known for its small beach where you can rent a kayak as this is one of the favourite water activities in Dubrovnik.
It was set for the scenes where boats were departing from King’s Landing. The most popular are in season 2 when Myrcella leaves for Dorne and in season 6 when Cersei is waiting for Myrcella to return.

Fort Bokar
Fort Bokar is part of the Dubrovnik City Walls.
The most famous scene was in season 2 when Tyrion Lannister and Lord Varys were discussing the defence strategies for King’s Landing with the Red Keep in the background.

Pile Gate
Pile Gate is the western entrance into the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
In Game of Thrones season 2 just when Myrcella gets shipped off to Dorne, someone throws manure at Joffrey’s face. Joffrey then orders his guards to kill everyone in the crowd which starts the riot.
Another popular scene was in season 3 when Jamie Lannister returns to King’s Landing after being captured by Robb Stark and then freed by Catelyn.

Minceta Tower
Walking the City Walls is one of the best things to do in Dubrovnik (and a must really!).
Especially when you know that the walls were used for filming of Game of Thrones. The most popular location at the City Walls is Minceta Tower.
The most famous scene happened in season 2 when Daenerys got back from her walk and realised her dragons were gone. She and Ser Jorah run to the House of Undying, a huge tower that doesn’t seem to have any door.
Daenerys starts circling the tower, with Jorah behind her, but then when she turns a corner, she disappears and magically accesses the tower, which is the Minceta Tower in real life.
✅ You can get the tickets for the Walls at one of the 3 entrances (next to Pile Gate, Ploce Gate or St. John Fortress) or online (recommended).
Alternatively, you can join this best rated early morning or sunset guided tour and explore the walls with a local guide.

Ethnographic Museum
The Ethnographic Museum in Dubrovnik is mainly known as the Littlefinger’s brothel.
The most famous scene there was filmed in season 4 when Tyrion meets Oberyn Martell who is looking to avenge the death of his sister and her children.
Stradun
Stradun is the main street in Dubrovnik, full of cafes, restaurants and boutique shops.
It was featured in the Walk of Shame in season 5.

Gradac Park
Gradac Park next to the Old Town in Dubrovnik was a filming location of one of the best scenes in Game of Thrones – The Purple Wedding.

Lokrum
Lokrum is a small island and nature reserve very close to Dubrovnik.
Even though it’s a 15 minute boat ride from the Old Town, Lokrum is a must-see location for all the Game of Thrones fans!
Below you’ll find GOT locations in Lokrum.
Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary
Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary is one of the most beautiful sites to visit in Lokrum.
A lot of scenes of Qarth were filmed inside the monastery. The most famous scene is in season 2 when during the party in Qarth, Quaithe approaches Jorah and warns him that Daenerys and her dragons need protection now more than ever.

Iron Throne
Inside the monastery is probably the coolest Game of Thrones attraction ever – the original Iron Throne!
When the TV series finished, they decided to leave the throne from the series in Dubrovnik as a gratitude.
I think you get why I said that this Lokrum is a must location for any true GOT fan!
P. S. You can sit on the throne (something Daenerys sadly never got to do – really hate that ending!).

Paradise Path
The Path of Paradise is a long uphill path surrounded by cypress trees on both sides.
It’s truly a beautiful path towards the highest point in Lokrum.
It was featured in season 2 when Daenerys was heading to the House of Undying to find her dragons (first few seconds in the video below).

Trsteno Arboretum
Trsteno Arboretum is a beautiful botanical garden & arboretum about 30 minute drive from Dubrovnik, but I included it on the list regardless because if you’re visiting Dubrovnik Game of Thrones locations, then it’s relatively easy for you to get to Trsteno Arboretum as well, especially if you rent a car.
The most popular scene is from season 3 when Sansa meets with Lady Olenna Tyrell to advise whether King Joffrey would be a good husband to Margaery and she responds that he’s a monster.
In season 4 it features a walk that Cersei and Oberyn took, when he promises to her that he will bring a gift from Cersei to Myrcella. It is definitely the most beautiful scene featuring Trsteno Arboretum.
