Top 10 Viewpoints in Dubrovnik with Best Views of Dubrovnik

It’s not a surprise that Dubrovnik is the most beautiful city in Croatia (it surely is my favourite!). The medieval walls of Dubrovnik are among the best preserved in the world, which makes Dubrovnik look like a fairytale place. One of the best things to do in Dubrovnik is to simply enjoy the views of the city while walking, eating, and having a drink. So, in this blog post I am sharing with you top 10 viewpoints in Dubrovnik you have to check when you visit.

The viewpoints are a combination of free spots, paid attractions and cafes/restaurants with amazing views of Dubrovnik.

Mount Srd

In my opinion, there is no better viewpoint in Dubrovnik than Mount Srd. Basically from there, you have panoramic views of Dubrovnik and the nearby Lokrum Island.

The summit of Srd is at 412 m (1,352 ft). At its top you will find Fort Imperial, a defensive structure built by the French in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars. In the 1990s during the Croatian War of Independence one of the fiercest battles happened on the mountain during the Siege of Dubrovnik (now commemorated in a museum at Fort Imperial).

While Mount Srd is free to visit, there are certain things you may pay for. There’s a restaurant there (which I will mention below), obviously you can also visit the museum and depending on how you’ll get there, you can also pay for that.

There are 4 ways to get to the top of Mount Srd: hiking (what we did), taking a cable car, joining a guided tour or by renting a car (you can also get an Uber).

💡IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE: There’s a fenced viewing point, but if you’d love to take a photo like we did, please, be extra careful because it’s very steep!

City Walls

My 2nd favourite place is the City Walls.

The medieval walls of Dubrovnik were built in the 13th century and are one of the best preserved in the world. The walls run uninterruptedly for almost 2 km (6360 ft) and are encircling most of the Old Town. So, expect for the walk to take approximately 2 hours!

Because they go around the Old Town of Dubrovnik and are on a higher level, the views of the city are very beautiful. Practically you’d be making stops every few seconds to take a photo.

✅ You can get the tickets for the Walls at one of the 3 entrances (next to Pile Gate, Ploce Gate or St. John Fortress) or online (recommended).

Alternatively, you can join this best rated early morning or sunset guided tour and explore the walls with a local guide.

P. S. The ticket for the City Walls gives you access to Fort Lovrijenac too, so don’t get rid of it until you visit both.

Below are my favourite photo spots and views of Dubrovnik from the City Walls.

Banje Beach

Banje Beach is not only the best beach in Dubrovnik, but it also has some of the best views of Dubrovnik’s Old Town (its east side).

So, sipping a cocktail, sunbathing, swimming and enjoying the views all at the same time – it really can’t get better than that!

Banje Beach Stairs

It’s not the official name, but to get to Banje Beach, you need to climb down the stairs. Well, before you do that, make sure to soak up the views.

It has one of the best views of the eastern side of Dubrovnik & Banje Beach which makes for a perfect postcard-like place.

Fort Lovrijenac

Fort Lovrijenac, or the St. Lawrence Fortress, is a fortress outside the western wall of Dubrovnik, built in the 14th century (though possibly even earlier).

The fortress is a symbol of Dubrovnik’s survival and freedom because it defended the City from the sea and covered the western Pile Gate.

You may know it as the Red Keep because Lovrijenac Fortress was used as one of the Game of Thrones locations.

Dubrovnik West Harbour

As you’re heading towards Fort Lovrijenac, you will pass by the west harbour and you’ll start to climb up.

Make sure to stop and admire the views of Pile Harbour and the west side of Dubrovnik.

Stara Loza Restaurant

Stara Loza Restaurant is a Michelin recommended restaurant, but I hope they get the star in the future because the food is so delicious and the views are amazing.

You need to reserve a table in advance, and definitely ask for the balcony table, so you can enjoy the views of Dubrovnik Old Town and its orange-tiled roofs.

P. S. The seafood platter for two was among the best I have ever had.

Panorama Restaurant

Its name is already revealing to you that you’ll have a panoramic view of Dubrovnik.

Panorama Restaurant is on Mount Srd, so it makes it a perfect stop for coffee or lunch/dinner, especially if you decide to hike. We had both coffee and lunch there.

In the peak season, and especially for sunset, you need to reserve your table in advance.

Dubravka Restaurant

My favourite restaurant in Dubrovnik was Dubravka Restaurant. We loved it so much that we had breakfast and dinner multiple times there.

The restaurant is next to Pile Harbour and Fort Bokar, so the beautiful views are guaranteed, especially for sunset.

From the Sea

And lastly, given that Dubrovnik is situated on the beautiful Adriatic Coast, you can enjoy the views from the sea.

We did it while we were taking a boat to Lokrum.

Another great way is to rent a kayak, which is a very popular sea activity in Dubrovnik (you go all the way to Lokrum and back actually).
